KTR direct GHMC teams to remain alert for monsoon challenges

Hyderabad, June 24: Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday directed Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to work in full readiness on implementation of monsoon plan.

The Minister issued several directives to this effect at a review meeting on monsoon preparedness in GHMC limits, at Pragati Bhavan here in Hyderabad.

GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Mayor M Sri Latha Reddy, Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar, Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, Director EVDM Vishwajit Kampati participated in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister KT Rama Rao said the GHMC should be ready to face any situation in the city in the wake of torrential rains as in the last few years. To this end, it was suggested that a definite plan be prepared to move forward with coordination between the various departments within the GHMC.

The Minister said that the GHMC would further strengthen the Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) by providing the necessary funds to expedite the development of the Nalas.

GHMC has already been given appropriate administrative clearances for the development of the canals and to this extent, it is urged to further expedite activities like capping or fencing on the canals. On this occasion, details were sought regarding the fencing program of the rivers in different zones.

GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Commissioner Lokesh Kumar suggested that special oversight of the activities related to the canals should be done.

It was also suggested that all necessary protective measures be taken at excavations (especially roads) carried out as part of development programs under the auspices of various departments under the GHMC.

The meeting also discussed that the city should further expand the sanitation programs required to prevent the spread of any seasonal diseases during monsoon. Minister Rama Rao directed the health and sanitation departments to work together to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases in the city.

During the review meeting, the Minister also reviewed the TS-BPAS being implemented in GHMC as well as other programs such as SRDP.
