Hyderabad, June 21: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday demanded the Telangana Government to construct a new building of Osmania General Hospital (OGH), here in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who along with all his party MLAs, MLCs, and GHMC Corporators visited and inspected the hospital, demanded the ruling-Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government to fulfill its promise of constructing a new building of OGH.
Owaisi underlined that the Heritage building of the hospital had 30 operations beds and the Hospital used to conduct nearly 90 thousand operations a year, but as the building is currently shut and not in use, the count has come down to just 40 thousand and said, “is creating a lot of difficulties for the poor people to avail services at the hospital due to lack of space and facilities.”
Owaisi upheld that the AIMIM party is not interested whether if the State Government decides to raise a new building at the same place by demolishing the Heritage building or retain it as a Heritage structure and raise a new hospital at the vacant place within the OGH premises.
The party demand is a new building with state-of-art facilities at the Hospital, he stated.
He stressed that the Hospital is in dire need of a new building so as it can cater to lakhs of poor people of not just Hyderabad but also of south Telangana and even surrounding states like Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Mentioning the recent announcement from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to construct three Medical colleges around the city, Asad Owaisi slammed the Chief Minister for ignoring the ‘premiere’ Osmania Hospital which is a boon to lakhs of poor people of the state.
He informed the press that the AIMIM party will formally submit a representation to the Chief Minister demanding a new building for OGH.
Owaisi however, necessitated that the name should not be changed and the architecture should be incorporated as same of the Heritage building. He said that the “AIMIM party will not accept if the name or architecture is changed.”
“The heritage building is just lying there and is an eyesore. We have nothing to do with the heritage building. Are you going to look at heritage or people’s lives?, he said, adding that, “for heritage, you have the Charminar, Golconda Fort, etc.”
“We are not concerned with the heritage building, and will not give the government a chance to use the ‘Heritage building as an excuse to not construct a new facility,” he asserted.
It may be recalled that the Telangana High Court, earlier this year, questioned the State Government as to why it is making inordinate delay in respect of raising a modern building at Osmania Hospital.
A bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy was critical towards the government for not taking any decision on whether to raise a new building at the same place by demolishing the existing OGH building or at the vacant place within the OGH complex.
